The work of Luc Dratwa is a mixture of photography, art and technology. Big cities capture his attention, New York City is his favourite subject. The artist first won international acclaim with “Windows”: a series of photographs taken from the 76th floor of Rockefeller Center with a view from the Empire State Building. Next came “Subway”: images of an underground world from which man is physically absent. The focus is on the metal framework of a train carriage, the light of a deserted platform, the perspective of a tunnel. In 2014, Dratwa adds a technological innovation to his creations in “Streets”, giving a whole new dimension to the photographs of New York façades by night. At first the viewer is drawn to a building, door entrance, and longs to know what happens inside. It only requires an app to get access behind the scene, and step into the reality life behind the picture where actors enter the stage.
