Bruno Walpoth comes from a family of distinguished woodcarvers in the Val Gardena region of Italy. To Bruno, wood serves him more than any other material for its ability to convey his

emotions in his works of art. The sculptures do not tell stories or transmit messages though. It's as if the figures are deep in thought, inviting us to go beyond the outward realism to capture the inner, tranquil life, their soul. Through years of direct experience, the artist masters a unique understanding of working with different types of wood. For his life size sculptures in linden, heuses a semi-translucent paint to coat, in order to ensure that the wood grains remain clearly visible.
